    • J 21128 Axle pinion Oil Seal Installer (8.6 inch Axle)
    • J 23690 Axle Shaft Bearing Installer (8.6 inch Axle)
    • J 2619-01 Slide Hammer
    • J 29709 Wheel Bearing Installer (9.5, 9.75 inch Axle)
    • J 29712 Wheel Bearing Remover (9.5, 9.75 inch Axle)
    • J 29713 Axle Seal Installer (9.5, 9.75 inch Axle)
    • J 44685 Rear Axle Seal and Bearing Remover (8.6 inch Axle)

Removal Procedure
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  3. Remove the rear axle housing cover. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement.
  4. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement.

    5. Object Number: 688157 Size: SH

    Note: The following service procedure is for the 8.6 axle.

  5. Using the J 44685 remover  (1) and the J 2619-01 slide hammer  (2) , remove the axle shaft seal and the bearing from the axle housing.

    6. Object Number: 685944 Size: SH

    Note: The following service procedure is for the 9.5 or the 9.75 axle.

  6. Using the J 29712 remover , remove the axle shaft seal and the bearing from the axle housing.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 695758 Size: SH

    Note: The following service procedure is for the 8.6 axle.

  1. Using the J 23690 installer  (1) and the J 8092 handle  (2), install the axle shaft bearing until the tool bottoms against the axle tube.

    2. Note: The following service procedure is for the 9.5 or the 9.75 axle.

  2. Using the J 29712 remover  (1) and the J 8092 handle  (2), install the axle shaft bearing until the tool bottoms against the axle tube.

    3. Object Number: 695762 Size: SH

    Note: The following service procedure is for the 8.6 axle.

  3. Using the J 21128 installer , install the axle shaft seal until the axle shaft seal bottoms flush with the axle tube.

    4. Note: The following service procedure is for the 9.5 or the 9.75 axle.

  4. Using the J 29713 installer , install the axle shaft seal until the axle shaft seal bottoms flush with the axle tube.
  5. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement
  6. Install the rear axle housing cover. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement.
  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  8. Fill the rear axle. Refer to Rear Axle Lubricant Replacement.
  9. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
