Circuit/System Description
The wheel speed sensor receives a 12-volt power supply voltage from the electronic brake control module (EBCM) and provides an output signal to the EBCM. As the wheel spins, the wheel speed sensor sends the EBCM a DC square wave signal. The EBCM
uses the frequency of the square wave signal to calculate the wheel speed.
Conditions for Running the DTC
• | Wheel speed is greater than 8km/h (4mph) |
• | No wheel speed sensor faults exist. |
• | Vehicle is not cornering. |
• | No wheel spinning is detected. |
Conditions for Setting the DTC
• | Wheel speed differences between one wheel and the others is greater than 15 percent. |
• | All of the conditions for running and setting the DTC are present for a cumulative time of 3 minutes during a single ignition cycle. |
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
• | Antilock Brake System (ABS), Dynamic Rear Proportioning (DRP) are disabled for the remainder of the ignition cycle. |
• | The ABS and Stabilitrak indicator illuminates. |
• | The brake warning indicator illuminates. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• | The DTC becomes history when the conditions for setting the DTC are no longer present. |
• | The history DTC clears after 100 malfunction-free ignition cycles. |
• | The EBCM receives a clear code command from the scan tool. |
Diagnostic Aids
• | Faulty wheel speed sensor will not set this DTC. |
• | A vehicle using a space saver spare will not set this code. |
• | Installing a tire of significantly different size on the vehicle causes this DTC to set. |
• | Operating the vehicle with a tire that has very low air pressure may also set this DTC. |
• | Inspect the vehicle for an incorrect or damaged wheel speed sensor or VSS if the tires and the EBCM and ECM calibrations are OK. |
• | If the front tires are not the same size as the rear tires, the EBCM calibration must match the FRONT tire size and the ECM calibration must match the REAR tire size. |
