Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical in the G Van Service Manual.

  2. Object Number: 160838  Size: SH
  3. Remove the bolt from the coolant recovery reservoir.
  4. Set aside the coolant recovery reservoir.

  5. Object Number: 728539  Size: SH
  6. Press down the release tab on the Alternative Fuels ECM mounting bracket (5) and lift the ECM (7) from the bracket.

  8. Remove the connector position assurance locks (3) and disconnect the electrical connectors (2, 4) from the ECM (1).
  9. If mounting bracket removal is not necessary proceed to Installation Procedure Step 6 .

  10. Remove the ECM mounting bracket (5) bolts (6) from the ECM adapter bracket (4).
  11. Remove the ECM mounting bracket.
  12. Remove the right turn signal lens. Refer to Parking and Turn Signal Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems in the G Van Service Manual.
  13. Loosen the front ECM adapter bracket bolt (9) located behind the right turn signal lens.
  14. Remove the fender support rod to ECM adapter bracket bolt (3).
  15. Remove the fender support rod bolt (2) and the support rod (1).
  16. Remove the rear ECM adapter bracket bolt (8).
  17. Remove the ECM adapter bracket (4) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the ECM adapter bracket into the vehicle ensuring that the bracket is placed on the loosened forward bolt (9).
  2. Install the rear ECM adapter bracket bolt (8).
  3. Install the fender support rod (1) and bolt (2)
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the fender support rod to ECM adapter bracket bolt (3).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the front ECM adapter bracket bolt (9) to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Tighten
    Tighten the rear ECM adapter bracket bolt (8) to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Tighten
    Tighten the support rod bolt (2) at the fender to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Tighten
    Tighten the support rod bolt (3) at the adapter bracket to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  7. Install the ECM mounting bracket (5) to the ECM adapter bracket (4) using the four bolts (6).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the four mounting bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  9. Connect the electrical connectors (2, 4) to the Alternative Fuels ECM (1) and install the connector position assurance locks (3).
  10. Press the Alternative Fuels ECM (7) into the mounting bracket (5).

  11. Object Number: 160838  Size: SH
  12. Position the coolant recovery reservoir and install the mounting bolt.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  14. Install the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical in the G Van Service Manual.
  15. Program the ECM with the correct Alternative Fuels software if necessary.
