Subject: | Shake in Exterior Manual Rear View Mirror |
Models: | . |
When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.
A dealer or customer may comment on excessive shake in the exterior manual rear view mirrors.
To minimize the shake, vibration of this mirror, add a rubber shim to the pivot of the mirror tilt assembly reaction plate.
The internal assembly of a non-electric mirror consists of 6 parts:
Remove the glass from the mirror, and then remove the pivot assembly ( 4 Torx screws). The mirror glass snaps onto a ring (mirror mount) connected to the pivot assembly and in the ring (mirror mount) there is a part that connects end to end (cross bar) and this part that rides on a pivot (tension spring w/nylon bushing). Compress the sides of the ring to expand the ends at the attachment to the (cross bar). Pop the ring off the (cross bar) and gain access to the pivot (tension spring w/ nylon bushing). Fabricate a rubber shim using a thin strip of rubber. Place the rubber shim in the crossbar where it contacts the pivot (tension spring w/ nylon bushing) and then reassemble. This process should remove the majority of play out of the reaction plate and minimize the shake.
Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
