Engine Front Crossmember Replacement RWD

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 851503  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connectors from the engine crossmember.
  3. Remove the engine crossmember mounting bolts.
  4. Remove the engine crossmember.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 851503  Size: SH
  1. Install the engine crossmember.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the engine crossmember mounting bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 120 N·m (89 lb ft).

  5. Connect the electrical wiring harness connectors to the engine crossmember.
  6. Lower the vehicle.

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1199447  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Support lower control arms with safety stands.
  3. Unload the torsion bars. Refer to Torsion Bar and Support Assembly Replacement .
  4. Remove the right side differential carrier lower mounting bracket bolt and nut.

  5. Object Number: 1199441  Size: SH
  6. Remove the left side differential carrier lower mounting bracket bolt.

  7. Object Number: 1199377  Size: SH
  8. Remove the engine crossmember bolt from the left lower control arm bracket.

  9. Object Number: 851512  Size: SH
  10. Remove the engine crossmember lower mounting bolts and nuts.

  11. Object Number: 851506  Size: SH
  12. Remove the engine crossmember upper mounting bolts.
  13. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connectors from the engine crossmember.
  14. Remove the lower control arm nuts and washers.
  15. Remove the lower control arm bolts until bolts are flush with the frame.
  16. Remove the engine crossmember.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the engine crossmember.
  2. Install the lower control arm bolts to the through the engine crossmember and frame.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the lower control arm nuts and washers.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 145 N·m (107 lb ft).

  6. Connect the electrical wiring harness connectors to the engine crossmember.
  7. Install the engine crossmember upper mounting bolts. Do not tighten.

  9. Install the engine crossmember lower mounting bolts and nuts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the upper and lower engine crossmember bolts to 65 N·m (48 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1199377  Size: SH
  11. Install the engine crossmember bolt to the left side lower control arm bracket.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1199441  Size: SH
  13. Install the left side differential carrier lower mounting bracket bolt.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1199447  Size: SH
  15. Install the right side differential carrier lower mounting bracket bolt and nut.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).

  17. Load the torsion bars. Refer to Torsion Bar and Support Assembly Replacement .
  18. Remove the supports from the lower control arms.
  19. Lower the vehicle.
