Did you review the Diagnostic Starting Point - Seat Belts?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Observe the seat belt indicator while buckling and unbuckling the malfunctioning seat belt.

Does the seat belt indicator operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Buckle the malfunctioning seat belt.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the seat belt status parameter located in the SIR scan tool data list.

Does the scan tool indicate that the seat belt is buckled?

Go to Step 4

Replace the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup, and programming.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 8

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Test the seat belt switch signal circuit for an open, high resistance, or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Test the low reference circuit of the seat belt switch for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Replace the seat belt switch. Refer to Front Seat Belt Buckle Replacement.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 8

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
