Power Steering Cooler Pipe/Hose Replacement GT4
Removal Procedure
Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.
- Install drain pan under the vehicle.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Disconnect the power steering cooler hose from the power steering pump.
- Disconnect the power steering cooler hose from the power steering gear.
- Cap the power steering cooler ends in order to prevent the entry of dirt.
- Remove the power steering cooler mounting bolts.
- Remove the power steering cooler from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the power steering cooler to the vehicle.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the power steering cooler mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 5 N·m (44 lb in).
- Connect the power steering cooler hose to the power steering gear.
Tighten
Tighten the hose fitting to 33 N·m (24 lb in).
- Connect the power steering cooler hose to the power steering pump.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding
.
- Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.

Removal Procedure
Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.
- Install drain pan under the vehicle.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Disconnect the power steering cooler hose from the power steering pump.
- Disconnect the power steering cooler hose from the power steering gear.
- Cap the power steering pipes and cooler ends in order to prevent the entry of dirt.
- Remove the power steering cooler mounting nuts.
- Remove the power steering cooler from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the power steering cooler to the vehicle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the power steering cooler mounting nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Connect the power steering cooler hose to the power steering gear.
Tighten
Tighten the hose fitting to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).
- Connect the power steering cooler hose to the power steering pump.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding
.
- Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
