The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

During normal diagnosis for stalling, SES light on, or engine noises, you may find excessive distributor (HVS switch) drive gear wear.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Complete the current SI diagnostics for any symptoms or trouble codes found. If the customer concern is stalling, a SES light on with DTC P0300, or a gear whine type noise, inspect the distributor drive gear.

If excessive wear is found on the distributor drive gear, the distributor and the camshaft will need to be replaced.

Note: Engineering is interested in excessive distributor gear to camshaft wear. Engineering will be requesting both the camshaft and distributor back for analysis.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
