J 39822 Wiper Arm Puller

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 497988  Size: SH
  1. Set the wipers in the Park position.
  2. Disconnect the washer hose elbow from the air inlet grille panel.
  3. Remove the cover from the nut on the wiper arm.
  4. Remove the nut from the wiper arm.
  5. Important: If rocking the wiper arm fails to loosen the arm from the drive shaft, use a J 39822 or a battery terminal puller to remove the wiper arm

  6. Rock the wiper arm back and forth to loosen arm from the drive shaft.
  7. Remove the wiper arm from the drive shaft.
  8. Remove the wiper blade from the wiper arm. Refer to Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 783835  Size: SH
  1. Install the wiper blade onto the wiper arm. Refer to Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement .
  2. Important: Do not interchange the LH and RH wiper arms.

    The wiper arms are stamped with LH and RH.

  3. Install the wiper arm onto the drive shaft while aligning the center of the wiper blade to the black locator dots (3) on the lower center windshield (2).

  4. Object Number: 497988  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the nut on the wiper arm.
  6. Hold the wiper arm near the air inlet grille while tightening the nut.

    Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).

  7. Install the cover on the nut.
  8. Install the washer hose elbow onto the air inlet grille panel.
  9. Operate the wipers and inspect for proper operation.
