    • J 29709 Wheel Bearing Installer (9.75 inch Axle)
    • J 29712 Wheel Bearing Remover (9.75 inch Axle)
    • J 29713 Axle Seal Installer (9.75 inch Axle)
    • J 44685 Rear Axle Seal and Bearing Remover (8.6 inch and 9.75 inch Axle)

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Remove the rear axle housing cover. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement .
  4. Remove the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement .

  5. Object Number: 688157  Size: SH
  6. If servicing the 8.6 inch axle, use the J 44685  (1) and the J 2619-01  (2) to remove the axle shaft seal and the bearing from the axle housing.

  7. Object Number: 685944  Size: SH
  8. If servicing the 9.75 inch axle, use the J 29712 to remove the axle shaft seal and the bearing from the axle housing.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 695758  Size: SH

    Important: In steps 1 and 2, drive the axle shaft bearing into the axle housing until the tool bottoms against the axle tube.

  1. If servicing the 8.6 inch axle, use the J 23690  (1) and the J 8092  (2) to install the axle shaft bearing.
  2. If servicing the 9.75 inch axle, use the J 29709  (1) and the J 8092  (2) to install the axle shaft bearing.

  3. Object Number: 695762  Size: SH

    Important: Drive the tool into the bore until the axle shaft seal bottoms flush with the axle tube.

  4. If servicing the 8.6 axle, use the J 21128 to install the axle shaft seal.
  5. If servicing the 9.75 inch axle, use the J 29713 to install the axle shaft seal.
  6. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement
  7. Install the rear axle housing cover. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement .
  8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  9. Fill the rear axle. Refer to Rear Axle Lubricant Replacement .
  10. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
