Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    •  Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

Circuit/System Description

The driver door module (DDM) and front passenger door module (FPDM) control the power folding mirrors based on an input from the mirror control switch located in the DDM. When a mirror extend or retract command is seen from the mirror switch, the DDM and FPDM command the bi-directional motor control output to either extend or retract the mirror.

Diagnostic Aids

The power mirrors will not extend or retract if either the DDM or FPDM scan tool Mirror Horizontal Position or Mirror Vertical Position parameters are greater than 2.8 volts.

Circuit/System Verification

Ignition ON, move the mirror selector switch to the center position and press the left and right side of the mirror control to retract and extend the power folding mirror. Both mirrors should retract and extend.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition ON, view the scan tool Mirror Switch parameter while using the mirror control to retract and extend the folding mirrors. The parameter should change between Retract and Extend.
  2. If not the specified value, replace the DDM.
  3. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the applicable door module.
  4. Test for less than 2 ohms of resistance between the folding mirror control circuits.
  5. If greater than the specified value, test the control circuits for an open/high resistance. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the applicable outside rearview mirror.
  6. If all circuits test normal, replace the applicable door module.

Component Testing

  1. Install a 10A fused jumper wire between the applicable control circuit and 12 volts. Momentarily install a jumper wire between the opposite control circuit and ground. The mirror should fold or retract.
  2. If the function does not perform as specified, replace the applicable outside rearview mirror.
  3. Reverse the jumper wires. The mirror should fold or retract.
  4. If the function does not perform as specified, replace the applicable outside rearview mirror.
