Important: The shift rails and the shift forks are not serviceable. The shift cover
can be disassembled for inspect. The shift fork interlock pins, roll pins,
and the shift bar housing expansion plugs are serviceable.
Remove the old sealant from the shift cover.

Clean all the parts in a suitable cleaning solvent. Air dry the
parts.
•
Inspect the shift shafts for wear or scoring.
•
Inspect the shift shaft forks for wear through the hardened surface,
scoring, or distortion. The shift fork pads on the 5th/Reverse shift fork
are serviceable.
•
Inspect the shift fork, the bar poppet plungers and the springs
for wear or distortion.
•
Inspect the shift shaft socket assembly components for wear or
distortion.
•
Replace the shift cover if there is excessive wear to the shift
forks, shift shafts, or to the shift shaft sockets.
