The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Dealer World Message # VSE20060324
A limited number of early-built 2007 (GMT900) Silverado and Sierra Extended Cab Trucks do not have mounting provisions to allow for installation of the Silverado / Sierra Accessories Tubular Assist Steps. The new rocker panels went into production on 10/16/06. However, vehicles were built prior to this change being implemented. VIN breakpoint information does not exist relative to incorporating the new rocker panels in vehicle assembly
Therefore, a visual inspection of the truck will be required to verify that the vehicle has the required mounting holes and tabs prior to attempting to install assist steps.
There are four sets of mounting holes and tabs per side. If the truck does not have tabs with holes in them on the very bottom of the rocker panel, mounting provisions do not exist on that vehicle.
Note: You can NOT drill holes into the rocker panel to install these tube steps because the tabs are required.
The following Silverado / Sierra Accessories Tubular Assist Steps are affected:
Part Number | Part Name |
---|---|
17801889 | Tubular Assist Steps - 6 inch Oval, Stainless, Chrome, Extended Cab |

A catalog note will soon be added for these packages.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
