Subject: | Tubular Bed Rail End Cap Installation |
Models: | 2007 Chevrolet Silverado |
2007 GMC Sierra |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
A number of reports have come in relative to a "poor appearance" with the end caps used on Silverado / Sierra Accessories Tubular Bed Rails (P/Ns 19154652, 19154653) where by the end cap halves may not properly mate-up once installed.
To prevent this condition from occurring, the front and rear stake pocket bolts (1) should be "snug" prior to installation of the end caps. If overtorqued, the inner and outer end caps will not properly close once the end cap fasteners are tightened. Once properly installed, a 3 mm gap should exist between the two end cap halves, as shown below.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
