Water In Fuel Light Possible P2269 - keywords 6.6 6.6L circuit LMM sensor WIF

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

A dealer may encounter a customer concern of a "Water in Fuel - Service Required" DIC message or DTC P2269.

On vehicles not equipped with the DIC, a telltale lamp will be indicated on the instrument panel cluster.

Water in fuel is detected by a mechanical float style switch which completes a circuit when the float is in the raised position.

A WIF sensor may float in diesel fuel without the presence of water.

This condition may be seen when using lower API fuels (33 to 36 API).

Complete the current SI diagnostic for any trouble codes or symptoms found. If diagnostics were inconclusive, and a customer concern of a WIF light has been verified, get a fuel sample from the drain of the fuel filter assembly.

Pump the prime ball at the top of the fuel filter assembly and collect a minimum of 8 oz (236.5 ml) of fuel in a clear glass container. Check for the evidence of water. If no water is found, replace the WIF sensor.

Inspect the replacement WIF sensor for a green mark on the bottom of the sensor (please see picture below). Sensors with a green mark have been certified for robustness down to 31 API fuel. Evaluate repairs after the new sensor has been installed.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
