Subject: | Seat Rattle/Squeak - Not fully Latched/Poor Feel When Adjusting |
Models: | 2007 Chevrolet Silverado |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some customers may comment that their front seats with manual seat adjusters may squeak/rattle, especially with unoccupied front seats. The root cause may be due to the seat track not being fully latched. The seat tracks may not be properly aligned on
the seat rail. Service Fix is to remove the seat and realign (re-sync) the seat tracks to the rail.
Recommendation/Instructions:
- Before removing the seat, move seat to full forward position using front adjuster bar.
- Visually inspect or feel to see if seat track is "in sync": with the "Teeth" fully latched/engaged on both sides and that there is only one empty slot on each side (See picture below). If there is only one slot empty on each side and there appears
to be no latching concerns in full forward or other positions, do not continue with this procedure and troubleshoot as normal.
- If inspections shows that the seat is "out of sync" with one empty slot on one side and more than one empty slot on the other or one set of latching teeth are not engaging, then perform the following:
- Remove the seat from the vehicle
- Actuating the front adjuster bar, move the seat to the forward position and "re-sync" the seat tracks so that when the adjuster bar is released there is now only one empty slot on each side of the seat track and teeth on both sides are fully seated.
- Re-install the seat in the full forward position tightening the rear seat track fasteners first, adjust the seat to the full rearward position and tighten the front fasteners.
- With seat fully installed, verify that seat has remained "in sync".
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
