Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 4.3L

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Recover the refrigerant from the system.
  3. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  4. Remove the compressor and condenser hose bolt (1) and the washer (2).
  5. Remove the compressor and condenser hose from the compressor.
  6. Remove the sealing washers.

  8. Remove the compressor and condenser hose from the accumulator.
  9. Remove the O-ring seal.
  10. Remove the lower radiator hose.

  11. Object Number: 281172  Size: SH
  12. Remove the compressor and condenser hose from the condenser.
  13. Remove the O-ring seal.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a new O-ring seal.
  2. Coat the O-ring seal with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the compressor and condenser hose to the condenser.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the hose to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the lower radiator hose.
  6. Install a new O-ring seal.
  7. Coat the O-ring with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

  8. Install the compressor and condenser hose to the accumulator.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the hose to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  10. Install the sealing washers.
  11. Refer to Compressor Sealing Washers Replacement .

  12. Install the compressor and condenser hose to the compressor.
  13. Install the compressor and condenser hose washer (2) and the bolt (1).
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16. Add refrigerant to the system.
  17. Inspect the system for leaks.
