Cleaning and Inspection Procedure

  1. Clean all parts in a suitable solvent.
  2. Air dry the parts.

  3. Inspect the shaft for cracks.
  4. If the shaft is cracked, replace it.

  5. Inspect the gear teeth for the following conditions:
  6. • Scuffs
    • Nicks
    • Burrs
    • Breaks
    • High spots (small shiny spots on the gear teeth mating surface).
    • High spots could cause gear noise.
  7. Inspect the bearings for the following conditions:
  8. (If these conditions exist, replace the bearings.)

    • Roughness of rotation
    • Burrs
    • Pits
  9. Inspect the bearing races for the following conditions:
  10. • Scoring
    • Wear
    • Overheating
  11. Use a soft stone or a crocus cloth in order to remove scuffs, burrs, or nicks.
  12. Replace the component if these conditions cannot be removed.

  13. Replace the fifth counter gear, if necessary.
  14. 7.1. Press the gear off from the countershaft.
    7.2. Press a new fifth counter gear onto the countershaft.
