Cleaning and Inspection Procedure
- Clean all parts in a suitable solvent.
Air dry the parts.
- Inspect the shaft for cracks.
If the shaft is cracked, replace it.
- Inspect the gear teeth for the following conditions:
| • | High spots (small shiny spots on the gear teeth mating surface). |
| • | High spots could cause gear noise. |
- Inspect the bearings for the following conditions:
(If these conditions exist, replace the bearings.)
- Inspect the bearing races for the following conditions:
- Use a soft stone or a crocus cloth in order to remove scuffs,
burrs, or nicks.
Replace the component if these conditions cannot be removed.
- Replace the fifth counter gear, if necessary.
| 7.1. | Press the gear off from the countershaft. |
| 7.2. | Press a new fifth counter gear onto the countershaft. |
