Engine Ground Strap Replacement 2.2L

Removal Procedure

Additional ground straps are used to connect the body and the frame to the engine and the transmission. Always connect all ground straps in order to ensure a good ground path to the battery for all electrical components.


    Object Number: 395660  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the ground strap nut and bolt from the engine.
  3. Lower the vehicle.

  4. Object Number: 395665  Size: SH
  5. Remove the ground strap bolt from the cowl.
  6. Remove the ground strap.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 395665  Size: SH
  1. Install the ground strap.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the ground strap bolt to the cowl.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the ground strap to cowl bolt to 17 N·m (12 lb ft).

  5. Raise the vehicle.

  7. Install the ground strap nut and bolt to the engine.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the ground strap nut and bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  9. Lower the vehicle.
