Battery Negative Cable Replacement 2.2L

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  4. Remove the negative battery cable bolt from the frame.

  5. Object Number: 712216  Size: SH
  6. Remove the negative battery cable bolt from the radiator support.

  7. Object Number: 712204  Size: SH
  8. Remove the negative cable harness bolt from the engine.

  9. Object Number: 594785  Size: SH
  10. Remove the negative battery cable nut from the block.
  11. Remove the negative battery cable.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 594785  Size: SH
  1. Install the negative battery cable.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the negative battery cable nut to the block.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable nut to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  5. Install the negative battery cable bolt to the engine.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  7. Install the negative battery cable bolt to the radiator support.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  9. Install the bolt anchoring the negative battery cable bolt to the frame.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Battery Negative Cable Replacement 4.3L

Removal Procedure

  8. Remove the negative battery cable bolt from the block.
  9. Remove the negative battery cable.

  1. Install the negative battery cable.

  5. Install the negative battery cable bolt to the radiator support.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  7. Install the negative battery cable bolt to the frame.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  9. Lower the vehicle.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
