Removal Procedure
- Park vehicle on a level ground and block the tires to prevent vehicle from moving.
- Release the park brake.
- Remove the left hinge pillar trim. Refer to Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side in Interior Trim.
- Loosen the park cable at the equalizer.
- Remove the brake release handle from the park brake pedal.
- Remove the park brake assembly mounting bolts and nut.
- Remove the pedal assembly.
- Disconnect the cable from the pedal.
- Remove the brake cable retainer from the park brake pedal bracket. Press in on the retaining fingers to remove the cable.
Inspection Procedure
| • | Inspect brake cable for fraying, binding or kinking. |
| • | Replace frayed, bound, or kinked brake cable. |
Installation Procedure
- Install the brake pedal assembly.
- Install the park brake pedal mounting bolts and the nut.
- Install the park brake cable to the brake pedal assembly.
- Install the brake cable retainer into the park brake pedal bracket. Verify the brake cable retainer fingers expand when the retainer is inserted into the park brake pedal bracket.
- Install the brake release handle.
- Install the left hinge pillar trim. Refer to Body Hinge Pillar Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side in Interior Trim.
- Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the park brake pedal retaining bolts and the nut to 25 N·m
(18 lb ft).
