J 42371 Clutch Line Removal Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Shift the transmission into the 3rd or 4th mechanical gear position.
  2. Remove the shift lever. Refer to Shift Lever Replacement .
  3. Remove the shift housing. Refer to Shift Tower Replacement .
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  6. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  7. Disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the vehicle speed sensor and back up switch.
  8. Disconnect the wiring harness retainers from the right side of the transmission.
  9. Remove the catalytic converter Catalytic Converter Replacement in Engine Exhaust.

  11. Remove 3 bolts, 2 nuts and washers securing the transfer case shield to the frame rail and transmission (If the vehicle is equipped with 4WD).

  12. Object Number: 33202  Size: SH
  13. Remove the bolt securing the left side brace to the transmission.

  14. Object Number: 33180  Size: SH
  15. Remove the bolt and stud securing the left side brace to the transfer case.

  16. Object Number: 33134  Size: SH
  17. Remove the bolt securing the right side brace to the transmission.

  18. Object Number: 33146  Size: SH
  19. Remove the bolt securing the right side brace to the transfer case.
  20. Remove the transfer case, if equipped. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement in Transfer Case.

  21. Object Number: 33768  Size: SH
  22. Disconnect the hydraulic clutch line quick connect from the clutch actuator.
  23. Use J 42371 to depress the white plastic sleeve on the quick connect to separate the clutch line end from the clutch actuator quick connect.
  24. Remove 4 bolts securing the clutch housing cover to the transmission.
  25. Support the transmission with a jack.
  26. Remove the wiring harness from the front crossmember.
  27. Lower the transmission enough to gain access to the top of the transmission.
  28. Remove the fuel line retainers from the top of the transmission.

  30. Remove the bolt, washer, and nut securing the wiring harness ground wires to the engine block.
  31. Remove 5 bolts securing the transmission to the engine.
  32. Pull the transmission straight back on the clutch hub splines.

  33. Lower the transmission using the transmission jack.

Installation Procedure

  1. Raise the transmission using the transmission jack.
  2. Place the fuel line retainers on top of the transmission.

  3. Object Number: 33764  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the transmission to the engine and secure with bolts.
  5. • Push the transmission straight back onto the clutch hub splines.
    • Tighten the transmission to the engine bolts.

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  6. Install the bolt, washer and nut securing the wiring harness ground wires to the engine block.
  7. Install the housing cover and bolt.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the clutch housing cover bolts to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).

  9. Install the hydraulic clutch line to the clutch actuator quick connect.
  10. Install the transfer case if equipped. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement in Transfer Case.

  11. Object Number: 33772  Size: SH
  12. Install 2 bolts securing the transmission right side brace to the engine and transmission.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the right side brace bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  14. Install 2 bolts and a nut securing the transmission left side brace to the engine and transmission.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the left side brace bolts and nut to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  16. Install the bolt and stud securing the transmission left side brace to the transfer case.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the left side brace bolt and stud to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).


    Object Number: 33202  Size: SH
  18. Install the left side brace to the transmission with the bolt.
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the left side brace bolt and stud to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).


    Object Number: 33134  Size: SH
  20. Install the right side brace to the transmission with the bolt.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the left side brace bolt and stud to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  22. Install the bolt securing the right side brace to the transfer case.
  23. Tighten
    Tighten the left side brace bolt and stud to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  24. Install the catalytic converter hanger and exhaust section. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  25. Install the exhaust pipes to the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  26. Connect the muffler to the catalytic converter. Refer to Muffler Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  27. Install the wiring harness retainers to the right side of the transmission.
  28. Install the wiring harness connectors to the vehicle speed sensor and back up switch.
  29. Install the front propeller shaft. Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  30. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  31. Install the shift housing. Refer to Shift Tower Replacement .
  32. Install the shift lever. Refer to Shift Lever Replacement .
