J 36511 Oil Fill/Drain Plug Hex Bit (17 mm)

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Thoroughly clean around the fill plug and the oil drain plug.

  3. Object Number: 144191  Size: SH
  4. Use the J 36511 in order to remove the oil fill plug.
  5. Catch the oil in a suitable container.

  6. Object Number: 144195  Size: SH
  7. Use the J 36511 in order to remove the oil drain plug.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 4730  Size: SH
  1. Apply sealant to the oil drain plug threads. Use Teflon® GM P/N 1052080, or the equivalent.

  2. Object Number: 144195  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Use the J 36511 in order to install the oil drain plug.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the oil drain plug to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  5. Fill the transmission to the level of the fill plug hole. Refer to Lubrication Specifications .

  6. Object Number: 4730  Size: SH
  7. Apply sealant to the oil fill plug threads. Use Teflon® GM P/N 1052080 or the equivalent.

  8. Object Number: 144191  Size: SH
  9. Use the J 36511 in order to install the oil fill plug.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the oil fill plug to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  11. Lower the vehicle.
