Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the engine from the vehicle. Refer to Engine Replacement .
  2. Install the engine on a suitable engine stand.

  3. Object Number: 3791  Size: SH
  4. Remove the oil pan bolts.

  5. Object Number: 3792  Size: SH
  6. Remove the oil pan nuts.

  7. Object Number: 3793  Size: SH
  8. Remove the oil pan. Use a narrow putty knife in order to separate the oil pan from the engine block.

  9. Object Number: 3827  Size: SH
  10. Remove the oil pan rear oil seal.
  11. Clean the sealing surfaces and the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 3795  Size: SH
  1. Apply a 5 mm (0.193 in) diameter bead of GM P/N 12346286 (Canadian  P/N 10953472) or equivalent to the oil pan side sealing flanges.

  2. Object Number: 3796  Size: SH
  3. Apply GM P/N 12346286 (Canadian P/N 10953472) or equivalent to the oil pan surface that contacts the engine front cover.

  4. Object Number: 3797  Size: SH
  5. Install a new oil pan rear seal. Apply a small amount of GM P/N 12346286 (Canadian  P/N 10953472) or equivalent to the oil pan rear seal ears.

  6. Object Number: 3793  Size: SH
  7. Install the oil pan.

  8. Object Number: 3792  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Install the oil pan nuts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pan nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  11. Install the oil pan bolts.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pan bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  13. Remove the engine from the engine stand.
  14. Install the engine into the vehicle. Refer to Engine Replacement .
