Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement 2WD

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and the support vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 344049  Size: SH
  3. Remove the engine oil cooler line clamp bolt.

  4. Object Number: 344214  Size: SH

    Important: Have a drain pan ready for the engine oil to drain into.

  5. Remove the bolt attaching the engine oil cooler lines to the oil filter adapter.
  6. Remove and discard the seals.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Remove air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.3 L.

  9. Object Number: 414849  Size: SH
  10. Remove the engine oil cooler line from the radiator.
  11. Remove the engine oil cooler lines.
  12. Clean all of the components in a suitable solvent, and dry them with compressed air.
  13. Inspect the fittings, the connectors, the cooler for damage, distortion, or restriction. Replace parts a necessary.
  14. Flush the engine oil cooler and engine oil cooler lines with the same type of engine oil normally circulating through the engine.

Installation Procedure

    Important: When performing the following procedure, do not reuse the old retaining rings. Replace the old retaining rings with new ones.

  1. Install the engine oil cooler lines.
  2. Install the engine oil cooler lines to the radiator.

  3. Object Number: 414849  Size: SH
  4. Install air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.3 L.
  5. Raise the vehicle.

  6. Object Number: 414864  Size: SH
  7. Install new seals on the engine oil cooler lines .

  8. Object Number: 344214  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Install the bolt attaching the engine oil cooler lines to the engine oil filter adapter.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the engine oil filter adapter bolt to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  11. Install the cooler line clamp and the bolt.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the cooler line clamp bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  13. Lower the vehicle.
  14. Inspect and fill the engine oil to the proper level.

Engine Oil Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement 4WD

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 291214  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the front skid plate bolt.
  3. Remove the front skid plate.
  4. Important: Have a drain pan ready for the engine oil to drain into.

  5. Remove the bolt from the remote oil filter adapter.
  6. Remove and discard the seals.

  7. Object Number: 413622  Size: SH
  8. Lower vehicle.
  9. Remove air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.3 L
  10. Remove the engine oil cooler lines from radiator. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Pipe/Hose Quick Connect Fitting .

  11. Object Number: 413735  Size: SH
  12. Remove engine oil cooler lines from the vehicle.

  13. Object Number: 344047  Size: SH
  14. Inspect the fittings, the connectors, the cooler lines, the cooler, the filter lines, and the remote filter adapter for damage, distortion, or restriction. Replace parts as necessary.
  15. Flush the engine oil cooler, the engine oil cooler lines, the remote engine oil filter adapter, and the remote engine oil filter lines with the same type of engine oil normally circulating through the engine.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 414199  Size: SH
  1. Install new seals on both ends of the engine oil cooler line.

  2. Object Number: 344047  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  5. Install the engine oil cooler mounting bolt to the engine.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

    Important: When performing the following procedure, do not reuse the old retaining rings. Replace the old retaining rings with new ones.

  7. Install the engine oil cooler lines to the radiator.

  8. Object Number: 413690  Size: SH
  9. Pull back on the engine oil cooler lines to ensure a proper connection.

  10. Object Number: 291214  Size: SH
  11. Install the front skid plate.
  12. Install the front skid plate bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 32 N·m (24 lb ft).

  14. Lower the vehicle
  15. Inspect and fill the engine oil to the proper level.
