Circuit Description

A frontal crash of sufficient force to activate the inflatable restraint arming sensor and at least one of the two inflatable restraint discriminating sensors simultaneously sets the DTC B1051. At this time, the inflatable restraint Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module (DERM) records information regarding the SIR system and the vehicle status in the EEPROM. The DTC B1052 sets when the DERM has stored information regarding 8 frontal crash events.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The DTC sets when the DERM attempts to store frontal crash information and finds the EEPROM data area full.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The DERM turns on the AIR BAG warning lamp and sets a diagnostic trouble code.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The DTC clears when the DERM receives a scan tool Clear Codes command. If, at the next ignition ON after receiving a Clear Codes command, the DERM detects the data area is full, it sets a history diagnostic trouble code. This allows the AIR BAG warning lamp to illuminate should the DERM detect any additional malfunctions.

When measurements are requested in this table use J 39200 Digital Multimeter with correct terminal adapter from J 35616 Connector Test Adapter Kit. When a check for proper connection is requested, refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections in Section 8A4. When a wire, connector or terminal repair is requested, use J-38125 Terminal Repair Kit and refer to Wiring Repair.
