Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the wiper arm assembly from the vehicle. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 8546  Size: SH
  3. Remove the nut and the spacer from the shaft.
  4. Remove the interior trim panel from the endgate. Refer to Endgate Trim Panel Replacement in Body Rear End.
  5. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  6. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  8. Disconnect the electrical connector from the controller.
  9. Remove the retaining screws and the wiper motor.
  10. Disconnect the wiper motor harness from the controller.
  11. Remove the controller from the wiper motor.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the controller onto the wiper motor.

  2. Object Number: 8549  Size: SH
  3. Connect the wiper motor harness to the controller.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Important: Ensure that you install the wiper motor with the crankshaft centered in the endgate hole.

  5. Using the retaining screws, install the wiper motor.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 6.5 N·m (57 lb in).

  7. Connect the electrical connector to the controller.

  9. Connect the negative battery cable.
  10. Install the interior trim panel to the endgate. Refer to Endgate Trim Panel Replacement in Body Rear End.

  11. Object Number: 8546  Size: SH
  12. Install the spacer and the nut.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  14. Install the wiper arm. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement .
