Tools Required

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove the transfer case shield. Refer to Transfer Case Shield Replacement .
3. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
4. Remove the dust seal.



5. Remove the front output shaft seal.

Important: When installing the new front output shaft seal, install the seal dry.

1. Install the J 44636-2 on the front output shaft.




Important: When installing the new front output shaft seal, ensure that it is seated squarely in the transfer case.

2. Install the front output shaft seal on J 44636-1 .



3. Using the J 44636-1 , install the front output shaft seal.



4. Install the dust seal.
5. Install the front propeller shaft. Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
6. Check the fluid level of the transfer case. Refer to Transfer Case Fluid Replacement .
7. Install the transfer case shield. Refer to Transfer Case Shield Replacement .
8. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
