Diagnostic Aids

If the clutch release bearing is noisy, with the clutch fully engaged or during engagement, inspect the release bearing for burrs and nicks.

Did you review the clutch symptom operations and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - NV 1500 or Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - NV 3500.
  2. Inspect the release bearing in the actuator cylinder.

Is the release bearing worn or damaged?

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

Replace the release bearing in the concentric slave cylinder. Refer to Clutch Concentric Actuator Cylinder Replacement .

Is the clutch release bearing still noisy?

Go to Step 4

System OK

Inspect the clutch release bearing or binding on the concentric slave cylinder.

Is the release bearing binding?

Go to Step 5

System OK

Inspect for a weak linkage return spring.

Is the return spring weak?

Go to Step 6

System OK

Replace the return spring. Refer to Clutch Assembly Replacement .

Did you find and repair the condition?

Go to Step 7

  1. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - NV 1500 or Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - NV 3500.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
