Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.
Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in
SIR.
Important: Let the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil hang freely
after removal.
- Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to
Inflatable Restraint Coil Centering - Off Vehicle
.
- Compress the cam orientation plate using J 23653-SIR
and J 42137
.
- Remove the bearing retainer using J 23653-SIR
and J 42137
from the steering column shaft assembly.
- Remove J 23653-SIR
and J 42137
from
the steering column shaft assembly.
- Discard the bearing retainer.
- Remove the following parts
from the steering column shaft assembly:
7.1. | The cam orientation plate (5) |
7.2. | The turn signal cancel cam assembly (4) |
7.3. | The upper bearing spring (3) |
7.4. | The upper bearing inner race seat (2) |
