J 42371 Clutch Line Removal Tool

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 449324  Size: SH
  1. Shift the transmission into 3rd or 4th mechanical gear position.
  2. Remove the shift tower. Refer to Shift Tower Replacement in Manual Transmission-NV 1500.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  4. Drain the transmission fluid.
  5. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  6. Remove the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  7. Remove the left side transmission to engine brace bolts and nut.
  8. Remove the left side transmission to engine brace.

  10. Remove the right side transmission to engine brace bolts.
  11. Remove the right side transmission to engine brace.

  12. Object Number: 102888  Size: SH
  13. Use the J 42371 , push back on the white plastic sleeve on the quick connect in order to separate the hydraulic clutch line from the concentric slave cylinder quick connect.
  14. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.
  15. Disconnect the back up lamp switch electrical connector.
  16. Remove the wiring harness from the harness retainers.

  18. Remove the clutch housing cover bolts.
  19. Remove the clutch housing cover.
  20. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.
  21. Remove the transmission support frame. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement in Frame and Underbody.

  22. Object Number: 33764  Size: SH
  23. Remove the transmission to engine bolts.
  24. Pull the transmission straight back on the clutch hub splines. Do not let the transmission hang from the clutch plate and the clutch cover.
  25. Lower the transmission using the transmission jack.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 33764  Size: SH
  1. Raise the transmission using the transmission jack.
  2. Install the transmission to the engine.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the transmission to engine bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the transmission to engine bolts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).

  6. Install transmission support frame. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
  7. Remove the transmission jack.

  9. Install the clutch housing cover.
  10. Install the clutch housing cover bolts.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the clutch housing cover bolts to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).

  12. Install the wiring harness to the harness retainers.
  13. Connect the back up lamp switch electrical connector.
  14. Connect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.

  16. Install the clutch line to the concentric slave cylinder.

  17. Object Number: 449316  Size: SH
  18. Install the right side transmission to engine brace
  19. Install the right side transmission to engine brace bolts.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the right side transmission to engine brace bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  21. Install the left side transmission to engine brace
  22. Install the left side transmission to engine brace bolts and nut.
  23. Tighten
    Tighten the left side transmission to engine brace bolts and nut to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  24. Install the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  25. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  26. Fill the transmission to the proper fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Replacement .
  27. Lower the vehicle.
  28. Install the shift tower. Refer to Shift Tower Replacement .
  29. Bleed the clutch system. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding in Clutch.
