When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment on a condition where the manual transmission shifter may intermittently hop out of gear. This may occur on vehicles when equipped with a console. The condition primarily happens when the vehicle is operated in 4th gear, but may also happen in 2nd and reverse gears. This condition can occur if the shift boot is not correctly seated in the shift lever groove. The shift boot can slide up the lever and create a binding condition. This condition may be more common in cold weather, which may cause the boot material to be stiff until the interior of the vehicle warms up.

Recommendation/Instructions:

To correct this condition, reposition the shift boot downward and verify that the lip of the boot is properly located in the groove on the shift lever. In some cases, it may be necessary to remove or reposition excessive insulation in the console area underneath the boot.

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
