Removal Procedure

Special Tools

KM-470-B Angular Torque Gage

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1820433 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the engine. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
  3. Remove the charge air system hoses and ducts. Refer to Charge Air Cooler Inlet Pipe and Outlet Pipe Replacement .

    4. Object Number: 1822547 Size: SH
  4. Remove the accessory belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  5. Remove the engine mount damping block. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side .

    6. Object Number: 1822648 Size: SH
  6. Drain the engine oil.
  7. Remove the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .
  8. Remove the oil pump. Refer to Oil Pump Replacement .

    9. Object Number: 1822595 Size: SH
  9. Remove the lower crankcase-to-transaxle bolt.
  10. Remove the engine block ground bolt.
  11. Remove the lower crankcase.

Cleaning Procedure
  1. Clean the lower crankcase sealing surface.
  2. Clean the engine block sealing surface.
  3. Clean the lower crankcase tightening bolts.
  4. Clean the lower crankcase bolt holes.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1822595 Size: SH
  1. Coat the sealant (Hylomar 3000) on the lower crankcase sealing surface.
  2. Install the lower crankcase.
  3. Install the engine block ground bolt.

    4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the lower crankcase-to-transaxle bolt.

    5. Tighten

        • Tighten the lower crankcase inner bolts to 25 N·m (18.4 lb ft). Using the KM-470-B , tighten lower crankcase inner bolts another 45 degrees plus 90 degrees.
        • Tighten the lower crankcase outer bolts to 35 N·m (25.8 lb ft).
        • Tighten the engine block ground bolt to 25 N·m (18.4 lb ft).
        • Tighten the transaxle tightening bolt (lower crankcase-to-transaxle bolt) to 75 N·m (55.3 lb ft).

  5. Install the oil pump. Refer to Oil Pump Replacement .
  6. Install the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .

    7. Object Number: 1822547 Size: SH
  7. Install the engine mount damping block. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement - Right Side .
  8. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  9. Install the charge air system hoses and ducts. Refer to Charge Air Cooler Inlet Pipe and Outlet Pipe Replacement .
  10. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
