For 1990-2009 cars only
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Mark the location of the wheels relative to the wheel studs.
  3. Mark the vehicle position on each tire and wheel assembly - LF, LR, RF, RR.
  4. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies from the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  5. Remove the brake rotors from the vehicle. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement and to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement.
  6. Clean the mounting surfaces of the brake rotors and the hub flanges of any loose debris, rust, and corrosion.

  8. Position the dial indicator on the machined surface of the wheel hub flange outside of the wheel studs.
  9. Rotate the hub one complete revolution in order to find the low spot.
  10. Set the dial indicator to zero at the low spot.
  11. Rotate the hub one more complete revolution and measure the total amount of wheel hub flange runout.
  12. Specification - Guideline
    The wheel hub flange runout tolerance guideline is 0.132 mm (0.005 in).

  13. If the runout of the wheel hub flange IS within specification, proceed to step 14.
  14. If the runout of the wheel hub flange is marginal, the wheel hub may or may not be the source of the disturbance.
  15. If the runout of the wheel hub flange is excessive, replace the wheel hub. Refer to Front Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement or to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement. Measure the runout of the new wheel hub/axle flange.

  17. Position the dial indicator in order to contact the wheel mounting studs.
  18. Measure the stud runout as close to the flange as possible.

  19. Turn the hub one complete revolution to register on each of the wheel studs.
  20. Zero the dial indicator on the lowest stud.
  21. Rotate the hub one more complete revolution and measure the total amount of wheel stud - stud circle - runout.
  22. Specification - Guideline
    The wheel stud runout tolerance guideline is 0.04 mm (0.002 in).

  23. If the runout of the wheel stud - stud circle - is marginal, the wheel studs may or may not be contributing to the disturbance.
  24. If the runout of the wheel stud - stud circle - is excessive, replace the wheel studs as necessary. Refer to Wheel Stud Replacement or to Wheel Stud Replacement. Measure the runout of the new wheel studs.
  25. Match the marks and install the tire and wheel assemblies to the vehicle. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  26. Lower the vehicle.
