J 42100-B Ball Joint Separator

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
2. Remove the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.



3. Remove the cotter pin and the nut that retains the control arm ball joint to the knuckle.
4. Using the J 42100-B Ball Joint Separator , remove the ball joint from the knuckle assembly.



5. Remove the control arm to cradle bolts and nuts.
6. Remove the control arm.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




1. Install the control arm to cradle front bolt and nut and tighten to 120 N·m (89 lb ft).
2. Install the control arm to cradle rear bolts and nuts and tighten to 70 N·m (52 lb ft).



3. Install the control arm ball joint to the knuckle.
4. Install the nut to the ball joint stud and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
5. Install the cotter pin.
6. Install the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
7. Lower the vehicle.
