When the Ignition is placed in the start position, 12 volts is supplied to the ECM notifying it that crank has been requested. If the ECM detects voltage on the circuit with the engine running, the DTC will set.
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC P0512 Start Switch Circuit
• | Battery voltage is between 10-16 volts. |
• | Key switch is "ON". |
• | Engine speed is more than 1000 RPM. |
Starter switch continues "ON".
The ECM will illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) the first time the fault is detected.
DTC P0512 can be cleared by using the Clear Info option on the Tech 2 or by using the Diag Clear Switch.
Inspect for the following conditions:
• | Poor connections at the ECM--Inspect the harness connectors for backed-out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, and poor terminal-to-wire connections. |
• | The relay remains applied on idling during cold start. |
