Removal Procedure

Notice: Use care when handling the coolant sensor. Damage to the coolant sensor will affect the operation of the fuel control system.

  1. Remove the air cleaner layer. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement .
  2. Turn OFF the engine.
  3. Drain the coolant below the level of the ECT sensor. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.

  4. Object Number: 740506  Size: SH
  5. Disconnect the ECT sensor electrical connect (1).

  6. Object Number: 740508  Size: SH
  7. Remove the ECT sensor (1).

Installation Procedure

Notice: Replacement components must be the correct part number for the application. Components requiring the use of the thread locking compound, lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, or sealants are identified in the service procedure. Some replacement components may come with these coatings already applied. Do not use these coatings on components unless specified. These coatings can affect the final torque, which may affect the operation of the component. Use the correct torque specification when installing components in order to avoid damage.

    Object Number: 740508  Size: SH
  1. Coat the threads with sealer GM P/N 9985253 or equivalent. If part is new and has sealer, do not recoat threads.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the ECT sensor (1).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the ECT sensor to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  5. Connect the ECT electrical connector (1) to the sensor.
  6. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  7. Install the air cleaner layer. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement .
