Makes 🢒 GMC_Truck 🢒 2004 🢒 TopKick C-Series (Conventional) C4/C5 🢒 Engine 🢒 Engine Controls - 6.6L (LB7) 🢒 Fuel Filter Assembly Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the air cleaner layer. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement .
  2. Drain the fuel from the fuel filter housing. Refer to Water-in-Fuel Draining .
  3. Disconnect the fuel heater and water-in-fuel sensor harness connectors.

    4. Object Number: 813896 Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the fuel hoses from the fuel filter/heater element housing.
  5. If equipped, disconnect electrical and vacuum lines from the following:
    6. • EGR valve vent solenoid
    • EGR valve vacuum sensor
    • EGR valve solenoid
  6. Remove bolts retaining sensor/bracket assembly.
  7. Remove the fuel filter bracket-to-valve cover bolts.
  8. Remove the filter/heater element housing.
  9. Remove the fuel filter bracket from the fuel filter/heater element housing.
  10. Spin off the fuel filter from the fuel filter/heater element housing.
  11. Inspect the fuel filter and replace if necessary.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 813896 Size: SH
  1. Install the fuel filter to the fuel filter/heater element housing.

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  2. Install the fuel filter bracket to the fuel filter/heater element housing.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the bracket-to-housing bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  3. Install the filter/heater element housing to the valve cover.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel filter bracket-to-valve cover bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  4. If equipped, install the EGR sensor bracket assembly and bolts.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. If equipped, connect the electrical and vacuum to the following:
    6. • EGR valve vent solenoid
    • EGR valve vacuum sensor
    • EGR valve solenoid
  6. Connect the fuel hoses to the fuel filter/heater element housing.
  7. Prime the fuel system. Refer to Fuel Feed Pipe and Return Pipe Purging .
  8. Connect the fuel heater and water-in-fuel sensor harness connectors.
  9. Connect the negative battery cables. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  10. Install the air cleaner layer. Refer to Air Cleaner Replacement .
  11. Start the engine and inspect for fuel leaks.
