Removal Procedure
- Remove the air cleaner layer. Refer to
Air Cleaner Replacement
.
- Drain the fuel from the fuel filter housing. Refer to
Water-in-Fuel Draining
.
- Disconnect the fuel heater and water-in-fuel sensor harness connectors.
- Disconnect the fuel hoses from the fuel
filter/heater element housing.
- If equipped, disconnect electrical and vacuum lines from the following:
• | EGR valve vent solenoid |
• | EGR valve vacuum sensor |
- Remove bolts retaining sensor/bracket assembly.
- Remove the fuel filter bracket-to-valve cover bolts.
- Remove the filter/heater element housing.
- Remove the fuel filter bracket from the fuel filter/heater element housing.
- Spin off the fuel filter from the fuel filter/heater element housing.
- Inspect the fuel filter and replace if necessary.
Installation Procedure
- Install the fuel filter to the fuel filter/heater
element housing.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the fuel filter bracket to the fuel filter/heater element housing.
Tighten
Tighten the bracket-to-housing bolts to 20 N·m
(15 lb ft).
- Install the filter/heater element housing to the valve cover.
Tighten
Tighten the fuel filter bracket-to-valve cover bolts
to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- If equipped, install the EGR sensor bracket assembly and bolts.
Tighten
Tighten bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- If equipped, connect the electrical and vacuum to the following:
• | EGR valve vent solenoid |
• | EGR valve vacuum sensor |
- Connect the fuel hoses to the fuel filter/heater element housing.
- Prime the fuel system. Refer to
Fuel Feed Pipe and Return Pipe Purging
.
- Connect the fuel heater and water-in-fuel sensor harness connectors.
- Connect the negative battery cables. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
- Install the air cleaner layer. Refer to
Air Cleaner Replacement
.
- Start the engine and inspect for fuel leaks.
