Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement Without CTF

Removal Procedure

  1. If removing a crankshaft position sensor on a vehicle equipped with automatic transmission, remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 814052  Size: SH

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector to the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor (1).
  5. Loosen the CKP sensor retaining bolt.
  6. Remove the CKP sensor and clip.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the CKP sensor retaining bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining bolt to 5.9 N·m (52 lb in).

  5. Connect the electrical connector to the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.
  7. Install the engine cover, if removed. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .

Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement With CTF

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1369907  Size: SH

    Important: For engines equipped with an automatic transmission, the sensor is located at the top rear of the engine block. For vehicles equipped with a manual transmission, the sensor (1) is located at the bottom of the engine.

  1. If required, remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor (1).
  4. Loosen the CKP sensor retaining bolt.
  5. Remove the CKP sensor and clip.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the CKP sensor (1).
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the CKP sensor retaining bolt.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining bolt to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  5. Connect the electrical connector to the CKP sensor.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  7. If required, install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
