Tools Required
Removal Procedure
- Drain the crankcase.
- Remove the oil pan. Refer to
Oil Pan Replacement
.
- Remove the flywheel housing. Refer to
Engine Flywheel Housing Removal
.
- Remove the oil pick up tube and the O-ring.
Important: Do not damage the crankshaft when removing the oil slinger.
- Using the
J 41220
, remove the oil slinger from the crankshaft.
- Remove the idler gears with the shafts from the cylinder block.
- Remove the oil pump with the drive gear from the cylinder block.
Installation Procedure
- Install the idler gear shaft to the cylinder block.
- Apply clean engine oil to the bushing inside the cylinder block.
Important: Do not apply sealant over hole (1). This will restrict the flow of oil into the cylinder block.
- Apply RTV sealant (Three Bond 1141E or equivalent) to the edge of the oil pump.
- Install the oil pump to the cylinder block.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the bolts to the oil pump.
Tighten
Tighten the oil pump bolts to 24 N·m (17 lb ft).
- Install the idler gear to the idler gear shaft.
- Rotate the crankshaft so that the number 1 piston is on top dead center.
Important: The idler gear shaft oil port must be facing the cylinder block.
- Align the crankshaft gear mark L and the idler gear mark O.
- Install the idler gear bolt.
Tighten
- First stage: Tighten the idler gear bolt to 29 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Second stage: Tighten the idler gear bolt to 75 degrees.
