The journals of the universal joints are drilled each is provided with lubrication fittings through which lubricant travels to all four oil reservoirs, through a small hole inside of each reservoir. lubricant travels direct to the needle bearings. The seals protect the needle bearings against lubricant leakage, dirt and debris.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 71 N·m (52 lb ft).
Notice: This bearing is permanently lubricated. No attempt should be made in order to add or change grease within the bearing.
When installing a new center bearing, fill the entire cavity with chassis GM P/N 1051344 (Canadian P/N 93037) grease. Ensure that the quantity is sufficient enough in order to fill the cavity to the extreme edge of the slinger surrounding the bearing. This will shield the bearing from water and contaminants.
