Parking Brake Adjustment Driveline Park Brake

  1. Block the wheels.

  2. Object Number: 1522579  Size: SH
  3. Apply the park brake perpendicular to the actuating lever throughout its travel.
  4. The measured force should fall between 311-400 N·m (70-90 lb).
  5. If measures force is above specification, do the following:
  6. 4.1. Assure that the cable routing flows smoothly with no kinks.
    4.2. Assure that the camshaft lever is free to rotate in the proper direction.
    4.3. Check the cable to cable connection at the B.O.C. bracket.

    If threaded engagement into the hex fitting is greater than 14.0 mm (0.56 in) reduce amount by 3.2 mm (0.125 in). DO NOT reduce engagement less than 14.0 mm (0.56 in).

  7. If measure force is below specification do the following:
  8. 5.1. With the park brake lever disengaged, turn the handle adjustment knob as needed.

    Adjustment knob should not be near the bottomed out position in either direction.

    5.2. If handle effort can not be increased, adjust the tread up to 75 percent engagement ay the B.O.C. bracket to allow for the correct adjustment at the handle.
  9. If proper parking brake adjustment is not possible with these settings, check all system components for correct part numbers and assembly.

Parking Brake Adjustment Wheel Park Brake

  1. Block the wheels.
  2. Fully apply the hand park brake or apply foot park brake lever to the 5th notch position.
  3. Place a GE-47744 cable tension gage onto the front or intermediate cable forward of the equalizer.
  4. Drive the adjustment nut until 450 lbs of tension is indicated on the tension gage scale.
  5. Release the park brake.
  6. Fully apply the park brake 3 times to pre-stretch the cables.
  7. Fully release the park brake.
  8. Adjust the adjustment nut until there is no drag on the park brake system but an adequate amount of tension on the cable.
  9. No drag on the rear brakes should be present.
  10. Apply the parking brake and verify it is engaged by trying to move the vehicle.
  11. If proper parking brake adjustment is not possible with these settings, check all system components for correct part numbers and assembly.
  12. Remove blocks from the wheels.
