Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the pitman arm. Refer to Pitman Arm Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 905575  Size: SH
  3. Place a pan underneath the steering gear to catch the oil.
  4. Use a seal puller or a pry tool in order to remove the dust seal (5).
  5. Remove the stop ring (4) and the rear pitman shaft seal plug (3).
  6. Inspect the pitman shaft surfaces for roughness or pitting. Replace the shaft if the shaft is pitted.
  7. Inspect the housing for any burrs. Remove the burrs before installing the new seal.
  8. Clean the pitman shaft and the seal areas in clean solvent.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 905575  Size: SH
  1. Lubricate the new seals with power steering fluid.
  2. Use a suitable pipe as a driver in order to install the seals on the pitman shaft.
  3. Install the stop ring (4) and the rear pitman shaft seal plug (3).
  4. Install the dust seal (5).
  5. Install the pitman arm. Refer to Pitman Arm Replacement .
  6. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
