Front Brake Caliper Mounting Plate Replacement Dayton-Walther 4500, 5500

Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.

Use the brake caliper mounting plate in order to mount all of the stationary brake components. An L or R following the part number cast on the back of the plates indicates left or right side mounting. Some plates may also have an L or R painted on the front.

1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Block the wheels.

Caution: Refer to Brake Caliper Caution in the Preface section.

3. Remove the brake caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement.
4. Do not remove the brake line from the caliper.
5. Remove the hub and brake rotor assembly. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement.



6. Remove the bolts and washers.
7. Remove the brake caliper mounting plate.
8. Inspect the support rails for rust, corrosion, and wear.
9. Clean the support rails with a wire brush.
10. Inspect the brake caliper mounting plate for cracks or elongated bolt holes.

Replace the mounting plate, if necessary.

1. Install the brake caliper mounting plate to the steering knuckle.

Note: Ensure that the threads are clean and greaseless before applying threadlocker.

2. Apply 272 Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent, to the threads of each brake caliper mounting plate bolt.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

3. Install the bolts and washers.

Tighten

•	Tighten the brake shield bolts to 32 N·m (24 lb ft).

•	Tighten the brake caliper mounting plate bolts to 150 N·m (111 lb ft).

4. Install the hub and brake rotor assembly. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement.
5. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement.
6. Remove the blocks.

Front Brake Caliper Mounting Plate Replacement 6500, 7500, 8500, FM8

3. Remove the brake caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement.
4. Do not remove the brake line from the caliper.
5. Remove the hub and brake rotor assembly. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement.



6. Remove the bolts and washers.
7. Remove the brake caliper mounting plate.
8. Inspect the support rails for rust, corrosion, and wear.
9. Clean the support rails with a wire brush.
10. Inspect the brake caliper mounting plate for cracks or elongated bolt holes.

Replace the mounting plate if necessary.

1. Install the brake caliper mounting plate to the steering knuckle.

2. Apply 272 Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent, to the threads of each brake caliper mounting plate bolt.

3. Install the bolts and washers.

Tighten

•	Tighten the brake shield bolts to 32 N·m (24 lb ft).

•	Tighten the brake caliper mounting plate bolts to 150 N·m (111 lb ft).

4. Install the hub and brake rotor assembly. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement.
5. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement.
6. Remove the blocks.

Front Brake Caliper Mounting Plate Replacement 6500, 7500, 8500, FM6/FS7

6. Remove the bolts and washers.
7. Remove the brake caliper mounting plate.
8. Inspect the support rails for rust, corrosion, and wear.
9. Clean the support rails with a wire brush.
10. Inspect the brake caliper mounting plate for cracks or elongated bolt holes.

Replace the mounting plate if necessary.

1. Install the brake caliper mounting plate to the steering knuckle.

4. Install the hub and brake rotor assembly. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement.
5. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement.
6. Remove the blocks.
