Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement C4500 and C5500
Removal Procedure
- If equipped, remove auxiliary air tank.
1.1. | Drain auxiliary air tank. |
1.2. | Disconnect pressure switch electrical connector. |
1.3. | Disconnect input and output lines at auxiliary air tank. |
1.4. | Remove 4 nuts and auxiliary air tank. |
- Support canister assembly and remove four canister bracket nuts.
- Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) vent hose from the EVAP canister.
- Lower EVAP canisters and disconnect EVAC line.
- Disconnect the EVAP purge pipe and the pipe to the fuel tank vapor pipe from the EVAP canister.
- Remove the EVAP vent valve from the EVAP canister bracket.
- Remove the EVAP canister bracket nut.
- Remove the EVAP canister from the EVAP canister bracket.
Installation Procedure
- Install the EVAP canister into the EVAP canister bracket.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the EVAP canister bracket nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 5 N·m (44 lb in).
- Install the EVAP vent valve to the canister bracket.
- Connect the EVAP purge pipe and the fuel tank vapor pipe to the EVAP canister.
- Connect the EVAP vent hose to the EVAP canister.
- Connect EVAP line to canister.
- Install EVAP canisters to step with four nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 25 N·m (15 ft lb).
- If equipped, install auxiliary air tank.

Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement C6500/7500 and 8500
Removal Procedure
- Support canister assembly and remove the 2 canister bracket nuts and the 2 canister bracket bolts.
- Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) vent hose from the EVAP canister.
- Lower the EVAP canister(s) and disconnect EVAP line.
- Disconnect the EVAP purge pipe and the pipe to the fuel tank vapor pipe from the EVAP canister.
- Remove the EVAP vent valve from the EVAP canister bracket.
- Remove the EVAP canister bracket bolt.
- Remove the EVAP canister from the EVAP canister bracket.
Installation Procedure
- Install the EVAP canister into the EVAP canister bracket.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the EVAP canister bracket bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 5 N·m (44 lb in).
- Install the EVAP vent valve to the canister bracket.
- Connect the EVAP purge pipe and the fuel tank vapor pipe to the EVAP canister.
- Connect the EVAP vent hose to the EVAP canister.
- Connect EVAP line to the canister.
- Install EVAP canister(s) to the step with 2 nuts and 2 bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts and bolts to 25 N·m (15 lb ft).
