Removal Procedure

  1. Block the wheels.
  2. Support the propeller shaft.
  3. Mark the universal joints and slip joints with alignment marks.

  4. Object Number: 572986  Size: SH
  5. Remove the four bolts (3) from the rear axle front unit yoke.

  6. Object Number: 572980  Size: SH
  7. Remove the four bolts (3) from the rear axle rear unit yoke.
  8. Remove the propeller shaft.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install NEW universal joints propeller shaft. Refer to Universal Joint Replacement .
  2. Support the propeller in the installed position.
  3. Install propeller shaft.

  4. Object Number: 572986  Size: SH
  5. Install the four bolts (3) to the rear axle front unit yoke.

  6. Object Number: 572980  Size: SH
  7. Install the four bolts (3) to the rear axle rear unit yoke.
  8. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Tighten the propeller shaft half round end yoke bolts. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
  10. Inspect the propeller shaft for alignment and phasing.

  11. Lubricate the universal joints and the slip joints. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
  12. Remove the wheel blocks.
