Removal Procedure
- Remove the air cleaner layer. Refer to
Air Cleaner Replacement.
- Remove the air compressor, if equipped. Refer to
Air Compressor Replacement.
Note: Twist the spark plug boot one-half turn in order to release the boot. Pull on the spark plug boot only. Do not pull on the spark plug wire or the wire could be damaged.
- Remove the spark plug wires from the spark plugs and ignition coils.
- Disconnect the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
- Disconnect the ignition coil harness lead (2). Reposition the lead.
- Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
- Remove the valve rocker arm cover.
Note: The valve rocker arm cover gasket may be reused if not removed from the rocker arm cover.
- Inspect the valve rocker arm cover gasket for cuts or damage.
- Clean and inspect the valve rocker arm cover.
Installation Procedure
- Install a new valve rocker arm cover gasket if the gasket was removed from the rocker arm cover.
- Install the valve rocker arm cover.
- Install the valve rocker arm cover bolts.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolt in sequence using 2 passes.
Tighten
- Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in) a first pass.
- Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in) a final pass.
- Position and connect the ignition coil harness lead (2).
- Connect the CPA retainer.
Note: Fully install the spark plug wire by pushing on the exposed end of the spark plug boot. Do not push the spark plug wire on to the spark plug by using the metal heat shield.
- Install the spark plug wires to the spark plugs and ignition coils.
- Install the air compressor, if equipped. Refer to
Air Compressor Replacement.
- Install the air cleaner layer. Refer to
Air Cleaner Replacement.
