Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  3. Place a suitable support under the equalizing beam.
  4. Remove the rear spring travel limiting link from the suspension assembly. Refer to Rear Spring Travel Limiting Link Replacement.
  5. Remove the lower shock mounts from the equalizing beam. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement.

Rear Lower Bolster Spring Nut (Qty: 8)

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tip
Loosen the lower bolster nuts.

Tighten
129 N·m (95 lb ft)

Rear Upper Bolster Spring Nut (Qty: 8)

Tip
Remove the all of the upper bolster spring nuts so the equalizing beam can be separated from the spring bracket.

Tighten
129 N·m (95 lb ft)

Spring Saddle to Outer Frame Bracket Nut (Qty: 8)

Tip
Remove the nuts from the spring saddle bolts.

Spring Saddle to Outer Frame Bolts (Qty: 8)

Tip
Remove the bolts from the bracket and saddle.

Spring Saddle (Spring Bracket)

Tip
Lower the equalizing beam to provide clearance for removal of the spring saddle.
