Filler Tube Replacement Upper or One Piece

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the fuel below the level of the fuel filler hose. Refer to Fuel Tank Draining .
  3. Remove the fuel filler tube to fuel filler pocket attaching screws.
  4. Caution: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  5. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Clean the fuel hose connections and surrounding areas before disconnecting the fuel hoses in order to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.
  7. Loosen the vent hose clamp (8) and the fill hose clamp (5).
  8. Disconnect the vent hose (6) and the fill hose (2) from the fuel filler tube (7).

  10. Remove the fill tube ground strap fastener (3) and the washer (2).
  11. Remove the fuel filler tube.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the fuel filler tube.
  2. Connect the fuel filler vent hose (6) and the clamp (8).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Connect the fuel filler hose (7) and the clamp (5).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel fill and fuel vent hose clamps to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in.).

  6. Install the fuel filler tube ground strap with the bolt (3) and the washer (2).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 7 N·m (62 lb in.).

  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Install the fuel filler tube to fuel filler pocket attaching screws.
  10. Refill the fuel system.
  11. Inspect for leaks.
  12. Install the fuel tank filler cap.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.

Removal Procedure

  3. Lower the spare tire.
  4. Caution: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  5. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Clean all fuel hose connections and surrounding areas before disconnecting the fuel hoses in order to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.
  7. Loosen the vent hose and fill hose clamps at both ends of the fuel filler tube (5) and the vent tube (1).
  8. Remove the fuel filler tube and vent tube clip attaching bolt (11).
  9. Remove the fuel filler tube (5) and the vent tube (1).

  1. Install the fuel filler tube (5) and the vent tube (1).
  2. Connect the fuel filler vent hoses and clamps.

  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
