    Object Number: 588985 Size: SH

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  3. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Intake Air Resonator Replacement .
  4. Loosen the fuel and EVAP pipe retainer (2) nut at the bellhousing stud.
  5. Disconnect the chassis fuel feed and return pipes (3) at the engine compartment fuel feed and return pipes (4).

  6. Object Number: 18333 Size: SH
  7. Remove the injector fuel feed and return pipe retainer nuts.
  8. Remove the injector fuel feed and return pipe retainer.

  9. Object Number: 18334 Size: SH
  10. Remove the rear fuel pipe bracket retaining bolt.

  11. Object Number: 18335 Size: SH
  12. Pull straight up on the fuel pipes in order to remove the fuel pipes from the fuel meter body.
  13. Remove the O-ring seals from both ends of the fuel feed and return pipes.
  14. Discard the O-ring seals.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 18335 Size: SH
  1. Assemble the new O-rings into the inlet and outlet of the fuel meter body.
  2. Caution: Always apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male pipe ends before connecting the fuel pipe fittings in order to reduce the risk of fire and personal injury. This will ensure proper reconnection and prevent a possible fuel leak. During normal operation, the O-rings located in the female connector will swell and may prevent proper reconnection if not lubricated.

  3. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male tube ends.
  4. Install the fuel feed and return pipes to the fuel meter body.

  5. Object Number: 18333 Size: SH
  6. Install the fuel pipe retainer and the attaching nuts.
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the rear fuel pipe bracket retaining bolt.
  9. Tighten
Tighten the fuel pipe retainer nuts to 3 N·m (27 lb in.).
